Every other day, the Pro variant of this device was getting bugged with one issue or other. What made the matter worse was the fact that its official OTA updates that were aimed at ironing out bugs ended up bringing even more. Among them, it was the issue related to the camera that infuriated the userbase, and understandably so. Many users have reported frequent camera crashing issues on their Pixel 6 Pro device. As a result of which, they aren’t even able to get their hands on the device’s USP. If you are also in the same boat, then this guide shall help you out. Follow along for the fix.
How to Fix Pixel 6 Pro Camera Crashing
In order to resolve this bug, we have tried all the basic workarounds such as force stopping the camera app, deleting its cache and data, and even resetting the device, but none of them spelled out success [if you wish to give it a try as well, then refer to our guide on Camera Not Working in Android 12: How to Fix]. So keeping those workarounds aside, given below are the only two tweaks that worked out for us.
FIX 1: Use Open Camera
While there are a plethora of third-party GCam ports available for your Pixel device, however, this open-source modded camera app is the only one that effectively does its job. So download and install it from GitHub [direct link] and give it a try right away. There is just one issue though – it doesn’t support an ultra-wide camera, but at least it is able to take normal pictures without any crashes, or in other words, it works.
FIX 2: Update to Android 13
Many users, myself included were able to resolve this issue after updating the device to the latest Android 13 build. While the process will not wipe the data, but it is still recommended to take a backup beforehand. Once done, you may then get enrolled yourself as a beta tester and get the update as an OTA. Or you may install it right away via the ADB Sideload method [works on locked bootloader] using the instructions given here- How to Install Android 13 via ADB Sideload.
That’s it. These were the only two methods that did manage to fix the camera crashing issue on the Pixel 6 Pro. If you have any queries concerning the aforementioned steps, do let us know in the comments. We will get back to you with a solution at the earliest.
