With that said, the latest June update seems to have broken the ability to make NFC payments using Google Pay on a Pixel device. From the fourth iteration to the newest flagship, all of them seem to be getting bugged with this issue. Another intriguing thing to note is the fact that many users are getting the following error message as well: “Couldn’t finish setup to pay in stores: this phone can’t be used to pay in stores. This may be because it is rooted or altered in some other way.”
However, none of the users have made any such changes to their device [custom ROM, unlocked bootloader, root, etc]. Along with that, some users have also reported that their device is listed as “not certified” for Play Protect certification. The error also pops out when a user tweaks their device, which again isn’t the case. But due to these incorrect red flags, Pixel users are unable to make NFC Payment in Google Pay on Pixel devices. So is there a way out? Well, there does exist a nifty workaround that should help you rectify this issue. Let’s check it out.
